Funtastic Fiji

1. What country and city did you travel to?

I travelled to Fiji and stayed on Denarau Island which is a 20 minute drive from Nadi Airport.

2. What time of the year did you travel?

September which is their dry season but keep in mind that because of its tropical climate it is quite normal for it to rain for short periods of time throughout the day.

3. Where did you stay?

I stayed at the ‘Sheraton Denarau Villas’ which is located on Denarau Island. It is a bit pricey but it was worth every penny due to its amazing location, fantastic facilities and the staff were unbelievably friendly and helpful.

4. What was your favourite location?

I don’t really have a favourite location because I thought all the places I went (Savala Island, Beachcomber Island and Denarau Island) were amazing.

5. What was your favourite activity?

I have a huge fear of snorkeling, however when in Fiji you have to snorkel in as many reefs as possible. Words can’t describe how beautiful it was swimming in such crystal clear water and among the most incredible underwater life I had ever seen. It was the most amazing experience and should be a must when you go!

6. Name a song that framed your trip? Or reminds you of your trip?

Every time I hear this song or the word Bula it reminds me of the amazing people, the amazing hospitality and the great memories I had in Fiji.

7. List the 5 words you need to know in that country

English is spoken everywhere, however here a five word you should know:

"Bula" - Hello
"Vinaka" - Thank You
"Kava" - traditional drink
"Bula Vinaka" - A warm hello
"Fiji Time" – Don’t rush it will happen when it happens

8. Words of Warning

Make sure you pack your sunscreen, even if it is overcast the Fijian sun is strong and can leave you looking like a tomato if you’re not careful. Also when climbing a coconut tree don’t wear shorts!

9. List 3 essential clothing items

When travelling to Fiji all you need are:

-Swimmers
-Light clothing as it gets very hot and humid
-Thongs

10. List 3 essential personal items

Don’t leave home without your:

-Sunscreen
- After sun cream for those nasty sun burns
- Camera and underwater camera

11. Currency convertor

Currently it stands at 1.00AUD = 1.86526 FJD

12. Name one thing that is highly recommended by you which is great value for money

I would highly recommend the Oolala Cruise to Sava Island. It is a bit pricey at $129AUD however after spending the day on a secluded island with the most amazing crew and hosts it was the best $129 I had ever spent. The cruise lasted 6.5 hours; they provided us with three meals and unlimited drink, entertainment and all the equipment needed for our day of adventure. Once we arrive at the Island we were free to snorkel in the crystal clear water, marvel the views from a glass bottom boat, kayak, have a massage or simply relax on the beach.

 13. Traditional food that you recommend to try

I recommend that you try a traditional Fijian Lovo, which is where all the food is cooked underground.

14. Something to push your boundaries

Want to try something new and out of the norm, try the Kava a tradition drink in Fiji. Kava can make you feel happy and relaxed whilst leaving a tingling sensation on your tongue and lips.
